BA-SW Title IV-E Stipend Program

ELIGIBILITY & APPLICATION PROCESS

Eligibility
  1. Actively enrolled undergraduate students with a social work declared major.( BASW Virtual Tour )

  2. A minimum of a 2.4 grade point average overall.

  3. For fulltime stipend applicants: student must be in their junior year of course work, with eligibility to enter field internship in their senior and last year of the degree program.

  4. For regular employees of a county department of social services or human services: student must be able to show a 3 year plan toward graduation with a BA-SW to be eligible for the part-time reimbursement program or have approval from their agency's management to take a Leave of Absence in their last year of the program and thus be eligible to apply for a fulltime stipend.

  5. Students who cannot provide evidence of being able to complete their BA-SW by the following spring or summer from the date of application are ineligible to apply.
Application Process for Fulltime BA-SW Stipends:
  1. Applications for the fulltime stipends are open and accepted from the beginning of each Spring Semester, closing around the first week of February, depending upon the start of the semester, which can vary. Announcements will be made to all junior level students in the social work major who are active students and eligible for field internships in the following Fall Semester (senior year).

  2. Applicantions will be available from the Title IV-E office, HH 144.

  3. Applicants must attach a copy of their Field Practicum application when submitting a completed Title IV-E Stipend Program application.

  4. Applicants must show evidence of course work completed and a plan completing all required courses for graduation.

  5. Applicants must show evidence of a minimum of 2.4 GPA with a copy of their unofficial transcript.

  6. Applicants must show evidence of completion of the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement or a plan to complete it by the end of their junior year.
Application Process for County Employees Part-Time:
  1. Applications for the part-time Title IV-E BA-SW Educational Reimbursements for fully employed and eligible county employees will be accepted in either the fall or spring semesters depending upon the student's individual plan.

  2. Employee applicants must meet individually with the Undergraduate Social Work Advisor and one of the Title IV-E BA-SW Project Coordinators to be approved for eligibility for the reimbursement plan.

  3. Because each employee-student's situation will be different, each applicant will be approved for support on a case-by-case basis by the Stipend Awards Committee made up of county representatives and faculty.

  4. Applicants must have a letter of support from the director of the county's child welfare services to participate in the Title IV-E program and be allowed educational leave for classes.

    Employees must also meet standard or above ratings on their latest employee evaluation.

  5. Stipend recipients must agree to participate in the complete child welfare specialization as defined by the school, have a valid driver's license and secure use of a car as required for fieldwork, and undergo pre-screening for county employment.

  6. They must also fulfill a work commitment upon graduation.
Stipend Awards

A Stipend Awards Committee made up of county representatives and faculty will make the award decisions after applications are reviewed and screened followed by interviews with the selected candidates.

Coursework
  1. Undergraduate Title IV-E students take the regular major courses in social work plus 3 of the required electives in child welfare: SW 400 – Child Welfare Practice (Fall semester), SW 496 – Special Topics: Working With Children and Adolescents and SW 499 – Special Study: Working With Vulnerable Families (Spring semester).

  2. Title IV-E students must complete two semesters of field internship of 16 hours per week within the county public child welfare agency.
