MSW Title IV-E Stipend Program

APPLICATION PROCESS

Class of 2006

Prospective M.S.W. students must apply to BOTH the SDSU Graduate Division as well as to the School of Social Work directly. See the detailed application instructions .

There is no separate application form for the MSW IV-E Child Welfare Stipend program at SDSU School of Social Work. At the time of application, applicants must check the interest box contained in the SDSU School of Social Work MSW Application and include a resume. Please Note: The Title IV-E Program will review applications only prior to the first semester for all 2-year plan and 3-year plan students .

Qualifications

  • Students must be admitted to the SDSU MSW program.

  • Priority will be given to current permanent employees of the County/State Department of Social Services and admitted students who have the capacity and commitment to serve a diverse population.

  • Other desirable qualities: demonstrated commitment to a career in public child welfare; experience in working with disadvantaged children and families; capability for graduate level education; fluency in a second language of need in public child welfare.

  • Employees of DSS applying for the full-time stipend must elect to take an educational leave, however, may work during breaks. Those applying for the part time program may continue to work full time and be eligible for the educational reimbursements. They must be authorized by the agency for participation in the program with submission of a letter from their manager. This letter should be submitted after being awarded Title IV-E support. More detailed instructions will be provided by the project coordinator after the awards process.

  • Graduates who are unable to fulfill their agreement to obtain work in a public child welfare agency within a County or State of California child welfare agency by 6 months after graduation, must agree to repay the full amount of funds received within 5 years plus interest & cost of collection. Waivers to extend job search beyond the initial 6 months can only be granted by CalSWEC. Failure to meet the requirements of the program will also require repayment.

The Title IV-E MSW Stipend Program's Stipend Awards Committee consists of equal membership from SDSU Faculty, San Diego and Imperial County Children's Services. Awards announcements occur between May and June of each year.
