I just want to share with the outcome of Project Extending Donations to Children Across the Border (PED[ï]CAB). Across the SDSU campus, the Institute for Behavioral and Community Health (IBACH), the Center for Behavioral Epidemiology and Community Health (CBEACH), Rise N Shine Preschool and Infant Care Center, and several individual donors from the South Bay Community Services (thanks for Nadia Hurtado!), collected between 800 and 1100 items.
On December 22nd, Margarita Lopez, Karina Victorino and myself (all SDSU MSW students) delivered most of the items to Ciudad de los Niños in Tijuana. A few days later, Nadia Hurtado (also a SDSU MSW student) delivered the remaining items. After the items were delivered on December 22nd and we went for a tour of the agency, Martha Beltran and Ines Favela, who are the director and assistant director of Ciudad de los Niños, talked to PED[ï]CAB about the needs of their agency and the next steps of the project, including tentatively collecting non-cash donations from organizations in the South Bay area (e.g., Chula Vista, National City). We also discussed sharing information about the agency to potential future donors in the U.S., so that we attempt to collect cash donations from organizations in the U.S. It was a certainly a great moment for Ciudad de los Niños, PED[ï]CAB, and the Latino Student Social Work Association.
We took several pictures of the Ciudad de los Niños to record this great moment, but there are too many pictures to share via email. Please visit our Facebook page. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED A FACEBOOK ACCOUNT TO ACCESS OUR FACEBOOK PAGE.
Thank you School of Social Work!
