What made you enroll in the School of Social Work at SDSU?
While I was in community college I decided complete an associate degree in social work to see if this was truly the field for me. One day, a current social work student came to one of my lectures to tell students about her experience in the program at SDSU and it was then that I decided this was the right university for me. The program offered the preparation I was looking for, so to this day I feel confident about my decision to pursue my education at SDSU.
Describe your most memorable experience in the School.
Being selected to represent undergraduate social work students in the Curriculum Committee has been one of my most memorable experiences. I have learned so much about the formation of our curriculum from the committee and it has been a true privilege being able to represent my fellow classmates this year.
What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation I hope to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician while keeping myself involved in community organizations focused on improving the health of vulnerable populations.
What are some of your favorite aspects of the program?
Being able to take on an internship is an aspect of the program I look forward to. The internship will give me exposure and an opportunity to practice the skills that I have learned in class. Something else I really like about the program is that many of the faculty are currently working in the field so they are able to offer their insight about the topics being covered in class.
Describe why you would recommend SDSU to potential students.
The social work program at SDSU is a well-rounded program that gives social work students the preparation they need to become top quality social workers. Students are encouraged to become involved on campus and in the community and opportunities to do so come up quite often.
