What made you decide to enroll in the School of Social Work at SDSU?
While at San Diego City College, I crossed path with former students who spoke highly of the School of Social Work program at SDSU. In addition, I really did not want to leave San Diego.
What has been your most memorable experience in the School?
My BSW graduation and acceptance into the MSW program, of course. Another memorable moment is the Aztec Nights at Templo del Sol. It was a humbling and joyful moment. After years in skid row and being in and out of jails and prisons, I was receiving cheer welcomes from students, alumni, faculty, and staff. I was coroneted an Aztec. What a moment it was!!!
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on pursuing a career in mental health, serving persons with mental illness. I plan on coming back for a Doctorate in Social Work.
What are some of your favorite aspects of the program?
I love the strength-based and the culturally-competent focus the School of Social Work at SDSU promotes.
Describe why you would recommend SDSU to potential students.
SDSU operates with a functional family setting atmosphere. The faculty and staff care tremendously for the education and success of students. Students are treated with respect and their points of views are always sought.
