What made you decide to enroll in the School of Social Work at SDSU?
I decided to apply to SDSU’s MSW program after working with individuals with developmental disabilities. I realized the positive impact I could have on the lives of my clients and the community which we shared. This experience made me curious to learn about the most effective interventions to use with my clients. There are many professions that seek to use interventions to help their clients but I was attracted to the MSW program at SDSU because instruction on how to effect change ranges from the individual level to the community level. I can practice clinical skills and learn to be involved in community change efforts to become a well-rounded Social Worker and a socially active citizen.
What have been your most memorable experience in the school?
Being President of the Social Action Committee has been a valuable experience and has afforded me many learning experiences and fun times with other students from the MSW program. The NASW Lobby Days trip to Sacramento is always a fun and educational outing where we get to show off our SDSU pride and mingle with students of other California MSW programs.
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan on applying for licensure and completing the necessary steps to become a LCSW.
What are some of your favorite aspects of the program?
I have had two great years of internship experiences while in the program with both State and County organizations. I have been exposed to many valuable learning experiences and afforded outstanding opportunities to grow and practice my Social Work skills.
Describe why you would recommend SDSU to potential students.
I have recommended SDSU to others already! It is the right program for anyone seeking a vocation that is helpful and rewarding. Anyone who has an interest in social interactions and human behavior and has the desire to work for a more just society. The professors at SDSU are knowledgeable, helpful and have inspired me to raise my standards and expectations.
