To celebrate Social Work Month, the School of Social Work held its annual All School Day – a conference for students and faculty to examine a social work issue in depth. This year our theme was “Social Work on the Border.”
Our keynote speaker was Dr. Luis Zayas of the University of Texas-Austin, who has done extensive work on the impacts on mental health of immigration, detention, and deportation. We also had a local panel of social workers and other professionals who work with immigrants and refugees in the San Diego and Imperial County areas. Our closing performance was by Bennie Herron, MSW, MFA who is an alumnus of our program.
