Melinda Hohman is the Director and a Professor at the School of Social Work, San Diego State University, where she has worked since 1995. Dr. Hohman teaches courses in substance abuse treatment, Motivational Interviewing, and social work practice. She also coordinates the undergraduate social work program and the new Community Corrections Case Management Specialty. Dr. Hohman’s research interests include scale development and substance abuse assessment and treatment services particularly with women in the child welfare system and with DUI offenders. She has been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 1999 (MINT) and has trained community social workers, Child Welfare workers, probation officers, and addiction counselors in Motivational Interviewing (MI) across California and other western states. She recently was the project director of Cal-METRO, an MI training project for California Department of Corrections/Division of Juvenile Justice.
