New Faculty Member, Luis Contreras
Luis Contreras has a rich history of clinical experience, having served in many diverse populations at multiple agencies, including Alzheimer’s San Diego, Rady Children’s Hospital- San Diego, San Diego Center for Children, San Diego Youth Services, Dependency Legal Group of San Diego, and as a Protective Service Worker for HHSA-CWS for over 11 years. He has been in private practice since. January 2018 and has been a social worker at Paradise Valley Hospital and Bayview Behavioral Health, in both the Medical and Acute Psychiatric Inpatient department. During 2020, Mr. Contreras continued to work at PVH and Bayview on a per diem basis as he took an opportunity to work at RJ Donovan Correctional Facility.
Currently, Mr. Contreras has been an adjunct counselor at the Personal Wellness Center at Southwestern Community College and is the Program Manager at the Crisis Stabilization Unit for Bayview Behavioral Health. Mr. Contreras has also served as a Field Instructor for SDSU MSW students and has also supervised associate clinical social workers providing licensure hours to individuals who are seeking their LCSW since 2020.
Mr. Contreras received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, San Diego, and earned his Master of Social Work degree from San Diego State University in 2009. Mr. Contreras has been a registered Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2018 with the California Board of Behavioral Health. Mr. Contreras enjoys spending time with his wife Carmen, and his son Xavier, and their extended family. Luis is a lifetime musician, and if you’re lucky, he’ll pick up the guitar and show you his hidden talent.
