This memo serves to verify that our social work interns enrolled and registered in their respective Graduate or Undergraduate Field Practicum Courses are covered through the Student Professional Liability Insurance Program (SPLIP) for the current academic year and when a current SDSU Community-Based Service-Learning Agreement is in effect.

The School of Social Work field program has implemented a new Intern Placement Tracking (IPT) system – a web-enabled database to handle many functions of the field program that used to be done on paper.

Field placements, comprehensive skills evaluations, training registrations, etc, will all eventually be moved to the IPT system, allowing for better and more timely communication between School of Social Work faculty, field instructors, and students.

We are encouraging students and field instructors to think how the NASW Code of Ethics can be applied to use of social media and  to be mindful of confidentiality, dual relationships, professionalism etc.

Since the 1980’s voter registration of clients and community members in under-served and poor communities has been seen as a valuable and impactful macro project for social work interns.  Lists macro activities for students doing voter registration in agencies. The second page of this document has excellent, detailed resources to aid in implementation.
