Welcome Tamara Strohauer!
Please welcome Tamara Strohauer to the Field Education Team. Prof. Strohauer will be teaching one section of SW 489, an undergraduate field practicum course, this year. Prof. Strohauer is an Associate Clinical Social Worker, Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor, SERVE: Indigenous Social Workers for Change Project Coordinator, and a Lecturer in the School of Social Work. She is an active member the National Roundtable on Native American Trauma-Informed Initiatives, the Southern California Warrior Spirit team and Seventh Generation Work Group, a consortium of Tribal and County Social Workers. As SERVE Project Coordinator, Tamara works with CalSWEC Title IV-E programs, all of the southern California Schools of Social Work, Indigenous communities and tribal agencies. Along with her SERVE Colleagues, Tamara works toward de-colonizing social work curriculum and educating social work students as well as faculty across universities on California Indian History, historical trauma, ACEs, cultural humility and ICWA. Tamara provides trainings for future child welfare workers and behavioral health students, is passionate about trauma informed practice, and is certified as an ICWA Core Curriculum Trainer. Tamara’s research interests are PTSD, substance use, ACEs, trauma and resilience. She is a member of the School of Social Work’s Diversity Committee and GSWA Advisor. She is also a member of the SDSU Intertribal Work Group focused on campus initiatives for collaboration and inclusion of our Native communities and advocacy for students. Her greatest joy is working with students and community to promote well being.
