Application Eligibility

Only candidates who are offered admission to the MSW program can be considered for the Title IV-E program.  Admitted students in the advanced standing and the 2 year full-time program can apply.  Only county employee candidates admitted into the 3 or 4 year program are eligible for the part-time, educational reimbursement program.

Selection Priority

  • Current staff members of county public social services agencies and employees of the California Department of Social Services (CDSS), who are qualified for admission to an MSW program;
  • Applicants who reflect the diverse client populations currently served by public child welfare in California;
  • Specific attention to indigenous students committed to tribal and other indigenous organizations serving child welfare involved families;
  • Other qualified individuals with demonstrated experience and commitment to careers providing high-quality, culturally responsive practice in public child welfare services.

A  SDSU-County Title IV-E Selection Committee will base its awards on submitted applications and interviews with selected candidates.

Application Process

The MSW Title IV-E stipend application is included as part of the San Diego State University MSW program application and is submitted at the time of application to the MSW program.

If offered admission to the MSW program and upon review of your application, the SDSU-County Title IV-E Selection Committee will invite selected candidates for an interview. Awards are based on the outcome of the interview process and available stipends.
