Congratulations to Dr. Melanie Nicholls! Welcome to the School of Social Work!
We are very pleased to share that Dr. Melanie Nicholls will join us as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2023. Our School held a faculty search for an Assistant Professor with expertise in the field of Behavioral and Mental Health, particularly severe and persistent mental illness with adults and/or children and adolescents with mental health problems to begin Fall 2023.
Dr. Nicholls just completed her Ph.D. degree from our Joint Doctoral Program in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance Use. Dr. Nicholls received her MSW in 2016 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and has worked in mental health direct practice for over six years. Her clinical experience heavily centers on people with moderate to severe mental health disorders. She recently received her Ph.D. from the Joint Doctoral Program at SDSU/UC San Diego in Interdisciplinary Research on Substance Use. Dr. Nicholls’ research interests include the implementation of evidence-based practices in the mental health and substance use field, treatment access for people who are unhoused, and barriers and facilitators to treatment access and sustainment for people with comorbid disorders.
Please join us in welcoming her back to the School of Social Work!
