Student Success Fee Grant for Sport Social Work
The School of Social Work is pleased to announce the Student Success Fee Grant awarded for "Sport Social Work: Strengthening Integrations of social work, mental health and wellness with SDSU students, the Athletics Department and the local community". This year's grant will focus on four main areas: 1. Guest speakers for the Athletics Department (coaches, staff and student-athletes) targeting topics of hazing and bullying as well as how to integrate and access mental health supports and tools within the sport team setting. 2. Attending a regional/national conference focused on mental health and sports 3. Guest speaker for the School of Social Work focused on models and career options for the role of a Sport Social Worker working in collegiate athletic environments.
Student leads from the MSW program are graduate students Ashley Wright and Shannon Williams; Faculty Advisors are Katie Morrill and Amanda Lee. This is the second year of our partnership with SDSU's Athletics Department and would like to thank our partners within the Athletics Department: Athletic Director, JD Wicker; Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student-Athlete Support Services, Danielle Kelly; Associate Athletic Trainer, Alex Twombly; and student-athletes Paige Mitchell and Liberty Edwards.
